Domain name aftermarket

Sedo is the world leader of the market. Afternic used to be the major player, but it is on the decrease since it has been taken over by Buydomains. Both marketplaces are reserved for premium domains, because of the fees taken (10% of the sale price, with a minimum of EUR/$ 50 for generic extensions and up to EUR/$ 150 for country-code tld). The domain names can be put on auctions, but they require an approval. Moniker marketplace, famous for its auctions, Fabulous domains, Buy Domains & Dotcom Agency, are also among the major players for premium domain names.

Marketplace of Goddady, TDNAM offers premium & non-premium domains on sale, with a annual registration fee of $4,5 and a low level of commissions. Afternic Bazaar is reserved for domain names up to $600, with an annual fee of $20 and no commission on sales. eBay.com and eBay national websites have an excellent visibility and very low commissions, but they are not much frequented by domainers. Hundreds of domainers display their offer in dedicated websites, but their portfolio is generally limited and the number of sales per year too low to be listed here.

For buying or selling domains, forums offer more flexibility than the regular marketplaces because the seller is free to determine the rules of the sale (auctions vs. fixed price, bulk sales or individual sales, etc.). Most forums dedicated to domain names contain a buy & sell section or there are dozens of webmasters forums that have a domain names buy & sell section. But in practice, most sales threads fall through, whether because of lack of visibility or fantaisist offers.
