Internationalized Domain Names (IDNs - Multi-Lingual Domain)

IDN is an acronym that stands for Internationalized Domain Name. IDNs are domain names written in foreign languages like Chinese, Japanese, Russian and Spanish, and more generally domain names that contains characters not in the following list: a-z, 0-9 or "-". IDN are sometimes referred to as multilingual, multinational or international domains.

IDNs are increasingly popular, especially in countries that don't use the latin alphabet. The prices of IDN are expected to rise tremendously in China, Russia, Japan & Korea. The trend is more uncertain for French, German, Spanish, Western Slavic & Scandinavian IDN, for which the added value compared to ASCII domains is questionable.
